## **Overview**

Menu Items are the individual products available for sale within the SpotOn Restaurant POS. They are created and managed in the Back of House (BOH) and can include food, beverages, retail items, and other sellable products. Each Menu Item can be configured with pricing, modifiers, tax settings, and display options that control how it appears and behaves in the Front of House (FOH) during order entry.  


> ℹ️ **Alcohol Items and Age Verification**
> ℹ️ 
> ℹ️ For menu items containing alcohol, configure the applicable settings under the menu item's **Advanced Settings**.
> ℹ️ 
> ℹ️ - **Is Alcohol:** Set to **Yes** to identify the menu item as an alcohol item.
> ℹ️ - **Requires Authorization:** Enable this setting if authorization should be required when the item is added to an order. When enabled, FOH displays an **Add Order Item Authorization** prompt.

> ⚠️ <span style="color: #bf2600">**Age Verification**</span>
> ⚠️ 
> ⚠️ <span style="color: #bf2600">RPOS does not provide a configurable </span><span style="color: #bf2600">**age-verification or birthdate prompt**</span><span style="color: #bf2600"> for alcohol items. Customer age verification must be handled outside of the RPOS age-verification workflow according to the merchant's established procedures and applicable requirements.</span>
> ⚠️ 
> ⚠️ <span style="color: #bf2600">**Important:**</span><span style="color: #bf2600"> The </span><span style="color: #bf2600">**Requires Authorization**</span><span style="color: #bf2600"> setting does not verify the customer's age or date of birth. It only requires authorization to add the configured menu item to the order.</span>
