## Overview

Mark menu items and modifiers unavailable (**86**) from any POS station or handheld, and mark them available again when you're restocked. Changes apply across all your devices in real time.

## 86 (Disable) Menu Items

1. From the main menu screen, press and hold on a menu item
2. Select **Mark as Unavailable**
3. The item will appear greyed out and tagged as **Unavailable**
4. To undo this change, press and hold on the item and select **Mark as Available**

> ℹ️ Item availability updates sync across all your devices in real time. When you mark an item as unavailable or available from one device, the change applies to all your other devices immediately — no need to manually refresh the menu on each device.

## 86 (Disable) Modifiers

1. Select an item from the menu that has a modifier
2. From the **Modifiers Summary** screen, press and hold on the modifier you wish to disable
3. Select **Mark as Unavailable** from the prompt that appears
4. The modifier will appear greyed out
5. To undo this change, press and hold on the unavailable modifier and select **Mark as Available**

> ℹ️ Modifier availability updates sync across all your devices in real time. When a modifier is marked unavailable or available from one device, the change will appear on other devices the next time a parent item is opened.

## Limitations

- **Devices must be online for 86ing updates to sync: **If a device is offline when an item or modifier is 86’d from another device, those changes won’t sync to the device until it is back online.
- **Modifier 86ing updates are not synced to other devices when parent items are open: **When a modifier is marked as unavailable (or available), those changes appear on other devices the next time the parent item is opened. Try backing out and re-opening the parent item to see the modifier availability update.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Do I need to refresh the menu on each device after marking an item unavailable?**  
No. When you mark an item or modifier as unavailable (or available), those changes apply across all your online devices immediately.

**Can 86ing be limited to users with manager credentials?**  
No. All users with SpotOn Express FOH access can mark items and modifiers unavailable and re-enable them.
