## **Overview**

Choice Modifiers, also known as **Forced Modifiers**, are used when a guest must make a selection before an item can be ordered. These modifier groups ensure menu items are prepared according to the guest's preferences and prevent orders from being submitted without the required selections.

Common examples of Choice Modifiers include:

- Meat Temperatures
- Liquor Modifiers
- Egg Styles
- Salad Dressings
- Coffee Size Choices
- Drink Serving Sizes (16 oz, 20 oz)

Choice Modifier Groups can contain modifiers that are either priced or non-priced and can be assigned to one or multiple menu items.

### **Choice Modifier Pricing**

Some Choice Modifier Groups may contain modifiers that require an additional charge, while others may not.

Examples:

- Coffee Size Choice (Small, Medium, Large)

1. Navigate to the **Modifier Options** section.
2. Select **Add New Modifier Option**.
3. Select the first blank line from the list.
4. Click **OK**.

The blank Modifier Option serves as the pricing link used by the Choice List functionality.

1. Navigate to the **Online Ordering Settings** section.
2. Configure any desired online ordering settings.

**Review Related Menu Items**

---

### **Using Generic Choice Modifier Groups**

When the same selections are used across multiple menu items, a single Choice Modifier Group can be shared among them.

> ℹ️ Using shared Modifier Groups reduces menu maintenance and keeps menu configuration consistent.

---

### **How Choice Modifiers Appear in FOH**

Choice Modifiers can be viewed:

- When adding an item from the Menu screen.
- By selecting an item on a ticket and choosing **Modify** from the Item Commands menu.

**Required Selections (Forced Modifiers)**

When a Choice Modifier requires a selection:

- An orange blinking indicator appears next to the modifier category.
- The item cannot be completed until a selection is made.
- The selected modifier displays beneath the menu item on the guest check.
- The required modifier category remains highlighted until a selection is made.

**Modifier Categories**

The Modifiers screen displays available modifier categories across the top of the screen.

Examples:

- Meat Temps
- Liquor Mods
- Egg Styles
- Serving Choice

Some categories may also display Modifier Options that determine how the modifier is applied.

---

### **Rollup Pricing**

Rollup Pricing allows the price of a modifier to be included within the parent Menu Item price.

When Rollup Pricing is enabled, the modifier charge is combined with the Menu Item price and appears as part of the item's total price.

When Rollup Pricing is disabled, the modifier price appears as a separate line item on the order.

#### **Enable Rollup Pricing**

1. Navigate to **Menu Items**.
2. Select the appropriate Menu Item.
3. Scroll to the **Modifier Groups** section.
4. Locate the Modifier Group that contains the priced modifier.
5. Enable the **Rollup Pricing** checkbox.

#### **Example**

If a Coffee Menu Item is priced at $3.00 and the Large Size modifier adds $1.00:

- Rollup Pricing Enabled: Coffee $4.00
- Rollup Pricing Disabled:
  - Coffee $3.00
  - Large Size +$1.00

---

### **Choice List vs. Choice Modifiers**

Although Choice Lists are commonly used with Choice Modifier Groups, they serve different purposes.

**Choice Modifiers (Forced Modifiers)**

Choice Modifiers require an employee to make a selection before an item can be completed or sent to the kitchen.

Examples:

- Meat Temps
- Egg Styles
- Salad Dressings
- Liquor Serving Choices

Required selections are controlled by the Modifier Group configuration and the Min/Max settings assigned to the Menu Item.

**Choice List**

The Choice List checkbox controls how modifier selections are displayed and priced.

**When enabled, Choice List:**

- Supports Choice Modifier pricing through Modifier Options.
- Allows modifier pricing to be associated with specific selections.
- Prevents an unwanted blue line from appearing beneath the Menu Item in FOH.
- Helps ensure modifier selections and pricing display correctly.

> ℹ️ Important: Enabling the Choice List checkbox does not make a Modifier Group required by itself.
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ A Modifier Group can be configured as a Choice List without being required, and a Modifier Group can be required regardless of whether Choice List is enabled.

---

## **Tips**

- Use generic Modifier Groups whenever possible to reduce maintenance.
- Use clear and descriptive names for Modifier Groups.
- Verify required modifiers are configured correctly before publishing menu changes.
- Test modifier functionality in FOH after configuration.
- Review modifier pricing to ensure charges are applied correctly.
