## **Overview**

Order type fees allow Express merchants to automatically apply fees to the order types: Dine In, To Go, and Delivery. This makes it easy to apply common charges like delivery fees for online delivery orders or packaging fees for To-Go orders placed through Express Web Orders or GoTo

> ⚠️ This guide covers **custom fees** added to a customer's bill to cover specific costs like delivery or third-party service fees, without raising menu prices. These custom fees are not intended to create a surcharge. If** passing credit card fees to customers** as a surcharge is desired, please **do NOT use the order type fee option **and instead review Compliance Programs [here](https://help.spoton.com/space/SK/4155146311/Merchant+Compliance).

## **Step-by-Step Instructions**

> ⚠️ **Known Limitation:**
> ⚠️ **Third-party orders: **Order type fees configured in Dashboard are **not applied** to To Go or Delivery orders originating from **third-party online ordering platforms** (e.g., DoorDash, Uber Eats), since those systems calculate fees externally.
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ **Inclusive taxes are not supported on fees.** Only exclusive taxes appear as selectable options in the **Add New Fee** window. If you don't see a tax listed, confirm it's configured as exclusive in **Taxes and Fees**.

## **FAQs**

**Q: Can I assign more than one fee to the same order type?**
Yes. Multiple fees can apply to the same order type, for example a Service Fee and a Delivery Fee.

**Q: Will the fee apply to online orders?**
Yes. Fees assigned to Delivery or To-Go order types will automatically apply to those order types when customers place orders through Express Web Orders or GoTo.

**Q: Do I need to apply tax to my fees?**
It depends on your local tax laws. Some states or municipalities (e.g., California for plastic bag fees) require certain fees to be taxed. Consult your accountant or local tax authority if you're unsure.

**Q: Why don't I see one of my taxes in the Add New Fee window?**
Only exclusive taxes can be applied to fees. Inclusive taxes are not supported and will not appear as selectable options.

## **Troubleshooting**

- **Fee not appearing?**
 - Confirm the correct order type is selected in the POS.
 - Check that the fee is enabled and assigned to that order type in **Dashboard > Account & Settings > Taxes and Fees.**
- **Need to change the amount?**
 - Edit the fee directly from the **Fees** list and click **Save** to update.
- **Tip:**
Clearly label each fee (e.g., *To-Go Packaging Fee*, *Delivery Fee*) to avoid confusion for staff and customers.
