## **Overview**
SpotOn Express **Discounts** let you offer special pricing on menu items or entire orders. You can apply discounts automatically by schedule or manually from the Point of Sale (POS). This guide covers Discount basics: how to create, edit, and delete discounts in the SpotOn Dashboard.

## Create an Order-Level Discount
An order-level discount, when used, will apply to the entire check.
1. Log in to the **[SpotOn Dashboard](https://dashboard.spoton.com/)****.**
2. Navigate to **Menu & Tables > Discounts**.
3. Select **Add Discount** in the upper-right corner.
4. Select **Order discount**.
5. Add the **Discount Details**:
- **Name ** – Enter a clear and easy-to-recognize discount name.
- **Apply Discount **– Choose whether the discount should apply **Before Tax** or **After Tax**.
- **Value **– Enter the percentage or dollar amount value of the discount.
8. Select **Add discount **to save changes.
> ℹ️ A confirmation banner will appear when the discount was created successfully.

## Create an Item-Level Discount
An item-level discount applies to a specific menu item and, when configured, its modifiers.
1. Log in to the **[SpotOn Dashboard](https://dashboard.spoton.com/)**.
2. Navigate to **Menu & Tables > Discounts**.
3. Select **Add Discount** in the upper-right corner.
4. Select **Item discount**.
5. Add the **Discount Details**:
- **Name:** Enter a clear, recognizable name for the discount.
- **Apply Discount:** Choose whether to apply the discount **Before Tax** or **After Tax**.
- **Value:** Enter the discount as a percentage, dollar amount, or fixed price.

6. **Assign Items:** Assign the discount to specific menu items or categories.
> ⚠️ New menu items are not added automatically. Add any new items to this discount manually.
7. Select **Add discount** to save your changes.
> ℹ️ A confirmation banner will appear when the discount was created successfully.

## Verify a Manual Discount in the POS (FOH)
1. From the POS menu screen, add a discount-eligible item to the cart.
2. Tap the item in the cart, then select **Discounts**.
3. Select the discount you want to apply.
> ℹ️ This menu shows only the discounts for which the selected item is eligible.
4. Select **Done**.
5. Verify that the discount has been applied in the cart.
> ℹ️ To remove a discount from the cart, **select the item** it applies to > **Discounts** > **deselect** the discount > **Done**.

## Frequently Asked Questions
**Can I apply a discount automatically at certain times (like happy hour)?**
Yes. When creating a discount, you can set a schedule so it turns on and off automatically.
**What’s the difference between Item and Order discounts?**
- **Item discount:** Applies to a specific menu item.
- **Order discount:** Applies to the entire check.
**Can I apply multiple discounts to the same item?**
No. Only one discount may apply to an item at a time.
**Can I create a promo code for Online Ordering Discounts?**
No. Discounts (including promo codes, BOGO deals, and any other discount types) cannot be created or applied to Online Ordering at this time.
**Can I offer Discounts for Online Ordering?**

## **Troubleshooting**
**The discount I created is not appearing on the POS; how do I fix it?**
1. Confirm it is set to **Active** in Discount details.
2. Verify the discount schedule is correct.
3. Ensure the discount type (item vs. order) matches intended use.
4. Manually add any new menu items to the discount.
5. Check whether the item is already receiving another discount in cart; only one may apply.
