## Overview

Set up SpotOn Express **percentage-based item discounts** that apply to the full price of a menu item, **including any selected modifiers**. This is helpful when offering discounts on items with add-ons or different pricing options, such as beverages with size selections. This article explains how to configure percent-off (% off) item-level discounts to include modifier prices.

| **Scenario** | **Configuration** | **Application ** | **Result** |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Burger priced at $12 with $2 Bacon and $2 Avocado | Discount value 10%, before tax, apply discount to both item and modifier: **unchecked** | 10% Discount applies only to the $12 base price | $10.80 + $2.00 + $2.00 |
| Burger priced at $12 with $2 Bacon and $2 Avocado | Discount value 10%, before tax, apply discount to both item and modifier: **checked** | 10% Discount applies to $16 total | $14.40 |
| Sangria with $0 base price and 2 modifier options: $6 Glass or $22 Pitcher | Discount value 50%, before tax, apply discount to both item and modifier: **checked** | Discount is applied to whichever of the two size modifiers is selected during order | ![Discount applies correctly to both modifier prices.png](media://36e276f1-78c3-4a50-b848-ec4327bd4be6) |

## Troubleshooting

| **Symptom** | **Possible Cause** | **Resolution Steps** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Discount not applied to item | Item has a $0 base price, and the “Apply discount to both item and modifier” box is **unchecked** | Go to **Dashboard > Discounts** and open the discount configuration. Ensure “**Apply discount to both item and modifier**” is enabled. |
| Discount not applied | Discount not activated or item ordered outside scheduled timeframe | Go to **Dashboard > Discounts** and open the discount configuration. Check that the **Activate Discount** toggle is on. Verify **schedule** settings for days/times. |
| Discount not assigned | Item added to category after discount creation | Go to **Dashboard > Discounts** and open the discount configuration. **Assign new items or categories**. |
| Discount applied incorrectly | Discount type is **$ off** or **fixed-price** instead of **% off** | Go to **Dashboard > Discounts** and open the discount configuration. Change the **Value type** to **% off**, then enable “**Apply discount to both item and modifier**.” |
