## Create a Menu Item

### Step 1: Navigate to Menu

1. Log in to the [SpotOn Dashboard](http://dashboard.spoton.com)

### Step 2: Enter Item Details

3. Select the **Category** the item belongs to
  - Menu items must belong to categories in order to show on online ordering channels and kiosks
4. Optionally select a **Color **for the menu item tile on POS devices
  - By default, menu item tiles on POS devices inherit the color set for their menu category
  - Optionally select a color here to override the category setting.

2. To disable the setting, simply toggle it off

> ℹ️ Notes:

> ℹ️
> ℹ️ - Default modifiers configured at the modifier group level apply to all menu items attached to that modifier group
> ℹ️ - Default modifiers selected from the item form override modifier group settings for that item

## Frequently Asked Questions

**What if my new or updated menu item isn’t showing on my POS devices?**
Menu updates are synced to all online POS devices as soon as changes are saved in Dashboard. If your update doesn’t appear immediately, try refreshing your menu by opening **Settings** in the top left corner and tapping **Refresh**.

**Can I attach discounts to menu items?**
Yes. Item-level discounts can be managed from **Menu & Tables** > Discounts in Dashboard.

**When Skip Modifier Screen is turned on, how can staff edit modifier selections on POS?**
Skip Modifier Screen does not prevent modifiers from being edited. To update modifier selections, simply tap the item in the cart and click Edit.

**Why is the modifier screen still showing on POS when Skip Modifier Screen is turned on?**
Skip Modifier Screen only applies when modifier selection requirements are met. If, for example, selection requirements can’t be met because a default modifier is 86ed, the modifier screen will be displayed for staff to manually input required selections.

**Can I create menu items from the Dashboard app on my mobile device?**
Yes. Menu management generally works on mobile devices. However, some features are not optimized for mobile. If you have trouble, access the Dashboard from a desktop or laptop browser.

**Will deleting an item affect past orders or reports?**
No. The item will remain visible in historical reporting for accuracy.
