## Overview
The SpotOn Express **Change Item Quantity & Breakout** features are useful when customers order multiples of the same item, as well as when multiples of the same item need to be fired with different modifiers or listed separately on the check. This helps staff manage modifications and easily split checks.

## Change Item Quantity in Order(s)
Quickly adjust menu item quantities in the cart for both new and open orders.

| 1. Enter PIN and **Log In **
2. From the menu, **select items** to add to the “cart” on the right-hand side of the screen |  |
| 3. Ring in multiples of the same item in any of the following ways:
1. Add the item again from the menu
2. Tap the item already listed in the cart and select Repeat
3. Tap the quantity number and use the + or - buttons to reach the desired quantity
4. Tap the number again, use the keyboard for a numerical input > select the blue check mark to update

## Breakout Items by Line on Receipts
When item(s) are ordered multiple times, they will be identified by a quantity number in the cart and on the receipt. If each item requires unique modifications or should appear as an individual line item on the bill, making split checks easier, follow the steps listed.

| 1. **Tap the item** in the cart that needs to be split into individual line items > Select **Breakout** |  |
| 2. The items will display separately in the cart, allowing edits to items individually > Select a single line item to:
- Add or edit Modifiers
- Add or edit Discounts
> 📝 **Note:** Discounts can only be applied individually, even when multiple items have the same discount applied. |  |

## FAQs
**Can I break out items after sending the order to the kitchen?**
No. Items must be broken out before the order is sent to ensure modifiers and quantities print correctly on kitchen tickets.
**Will breaking out items affect reporting?**
No. The total sales and quantities remain accurate; this only changes how items are displayed on the check.
**Can I break out items with modifiers or discounts already applied?**
Yes. However, modifiers and discounts will need to be managed separately for each line item after the breakout.
**Are the Change Item Quantity and Breakout features inventory tools?**
No. These features only change item quantities within orders or line-item display on a customer check. They do not track or update inventory, and **Quantity on Hand is not available in SpotOn Express.**

## Troubleshooting
| **Issue** | **Steps** |
| --- | --- |
| **Items did not separate after selecting Breakout** | Try to refresh the order screen; if that fails, restart the POS application. |
| **The incorrect item quantity is being displayed ** | Tap the quantity number and use the + or - buttons to reach the correct quantity. |
| **A discount does not apply to all items** | Currently, discounts must be applied to individual items. Breakout/Select each line and apply the discount to each separately. |
