You can adjust tips until the nightly auto-batch close for printed-receipt tip-line payments and for on-screen tip payments when Tip on screen after payment is enabled. > ⚠️ **Known limitation:** > ⚠️ > ⚠️ When [Tip on screen before payment ](https://help.spoton.com/space/SK/4291887114/Digital+Tips+Pre+or+Post-Payment+%7C+SpotOn+Express#Tip-on-Screen-Before-Payment-Flow)is enabled, digital on-screen tips can **not** be re-adjusted after payment. --- **Quick Links** > Macro (toc) --- ## How it works ### Receipt-based tipping (tip line on printed receipt) Tip adjustments let you update a gratuity **after a check has been paid **from the checks screen, depending on how the customer left the tip and which devices are used. If your location uses **EMV **card readers, such as **Edge** and **Ledge**, you can enter or update the tip for receipt-based payments any time before your automatic batch close. ### Digital tip screens (customer enters tip on a screen) For tips entered on a **Customer Facing Display (CFD)** or **Handheld**, you can change the tip from the checks screen only when **Tip on screen after payment** is enabled and before the automatic batch close. ### The Checks screen The checks screen has three tabs: - **Open** – for unpaid checks. - **Awaiting tip **–for paid checks that still need a tip added. - **Closed** –for completed credit card checks. > ℹ️ ** Important Notes** > ℹ️ > ℹ️ - Tip adjustments are available only for eligible **Tip on screen after payment **and **receipt-tip line** workflows. > ℹ️ - You can make changes until the set **auto batch closure** time, unless the check is manually closed earlier or refunded. > ℹ️ - Checks paid with **Tip on screen before payment** **can not be edited** after payment. --- ## Tip adjustment after payment 1. From the main menu, select **Checks ** at the top of the screen 2. Select **Awaiting tip ** – all paid orders without tip adjustments appear 3. Select the check 4. The selected check opens on the right side. Click **Add Tip** 5. Enter the **tip **amount and click **Pay** > ℹ️ The check moves to the **Closed** tab. You can still correct the tip from there. Checks paid on a CFD or handheld skip **Awaiting tip** and go straight to the **Closed **tab, because the customer already entered the tip. > ℹ️ Tips are finalized at the nightly auto batch close time managed through **[Unified Batching](https://help.spoton.com/space/SK/4453007373/Update+Your+Auto+Batch+Time+Right+from+Your+Dashboard)** in the SpotOn Dashboard. --- ## Re-adjust tips already adjusted Use this workflow when a tip is already entered on a check or was added in the Awaiting tip queue, but the amount needs to be corrected. > ℹ️ You can correct a tip **as many times as needed until the nightly auto batch close**. After batch close, the amount is final. 1. From the main menu, select **Checks** at the top of the screen 2. Select the **Closed** tab 3. Select the check that needs the tip corrected 4. Select **Edit tip** on the right side of the check 5. Enter the corrected **tip** amount 6. Select **Pay** to save the updated tip amount If the check was split across multiple credit cards, each payment shows its own tip, and each can be corrected separately. > ⚠️ Refunding a check — even a single item — removes it from the **Closed** tab and locks the inputted tip. Ensure the tip is correct before processing a refund. --- ## Frequently Asked Questions **Can I adjust a tip on a closed check? ** Yes. Open the check from the **Closed** tab and select **Edit tip**. After the nightly auto batch close, a [refund](https://help.spoton.com/space/SK/3617488931/Refunds+%7C+SpotOn+Express+(FOH)) and re-ring, or a SpotOn support-assisted correction, may be required. For a rekey request, contact the **SpotOn Customer Support team** at **1-877-814-4102**, available 24/7. **Can I edit tips on checks paid on a CFD or Handheld? ** Yes. Only when Tip on screen after payment is enabled — those checks go straight to the **Closed** tab and can be edited. Checks paid with Tip on screen before payment cannot be edited. In that flow, the customer can cancel at the payment confirmation screen and re-enter the tip instead. **Why isn't my check in the Closed tab? ** Cash orders and refunded checks do not appear in **Closed**. The tab covers credit card checks that have not been refunded. **Can I adjust tips from the Dashboard? ** No. Currently, tip adjustments are performed from the POS, and remote adjustments are not supported. **How do re-adjusted tips display on the customer’s banking? ** Tip edits update the pending amount. The final amount appears on the customer's statement after your nightly auto batch close. **How do I know when my auto batch close time is?** The auto close batch time is set by you, from the SpotOn Dashboard > Account & Settings > Batch Times. When the auto batch close time is not manually updated, it is set to 4:00 am by default.
