- The **Divide Balance** feature allows you to split the total check amount evenly between multiple guests.
- For example, a $100.00 balance for a party of four will be divided into four equal payments of $25.00 each.
- This option is ideal when guests prefer to split the bill evenly rather than by individual items.

**Q: Does Divide Balance split items or just the total amount?**
Divide Balance splits the total check amount evenly. It does not assign specific items to individual guests.
**Q: Can guests pay using different payment methods?**
Yes. Each divided portion can be paid using any accepted payment method (e.g., cash, credit card, gift card).
**Q: Can I adjust one guest’s portion after dividing the balance?**
If adjustments are needed, you may need to void the split and re-divide the balance, or manually enter custom payment amounts.
**What happens to Auto Gratuity when a check is split?**
The result depends on the selected **Split Order Method**:
- **Into Checks:** The resulting checks remain part of the original order. If Auto Gratuity was applied before the split, the existing gratuity is distributed across the resulting checks. It is not removed simply because each check falls below the original Auto Gratuity breakpoint.
- **Into Orders:** RPOS creates separate orders and evaluates each order independently. The original party’s guest count is no longer retained as a single order. If the new orders do not meet the configured Auto Gratuity breakpoint, Auto Gratuity is removed.
> ℹ️ To preserve Auto Gratuity when splitting the bill for a qualifying party, confirm that Auto Gratuity is applied to the original check before splitting, and then select **Into Checks**.

- Verify the total balance before tapping **Divide Balance** to ensure accuracy.
- If the Divide Balance option is unavailable, confirm you are on the **Payment** screen.
- For itemized splits instead of equal splits, use the **Split by Guest** feature instead.
