## **Overview**

Menu Items are the individual products that can be added to customer orders within SpotOn Restaurant. Creating Menu Items correctly ensures they are assigned to the proper Menu Item Groups, Printer Groups, and Taxes, while also allowing for Modifier and Sub-Item configurations.

This article explains how to create a Menu Item, manage it within a Menu Item Group, and use duplication to streamline menu maintenance.

## **Step-by-Step Instructions**

### **Create a Menu Item**

1. Navigate to Menu Items.
2. Select the New Item (+) button.
3. In the General Information section:
  - Enter the Name.
  - Select the appropriate Report Group.
4. In the Location Specific Settings section:
  - Assign the appropriate Printer Group.
5. In the Taxes section:
  - Add any applicable taxes (optional).
6. In the Menu Item Groups section:
  - Select the appropriate Menu Item Group for the item.

### **View or Edit the Menu Item Within a Menu Item Group**

1. Navigate to Menu Item Groups.
2. Select the Menu Item Group containing the newly created Menu Item.
3. In the Menu Items section, select Edit Menu Items.
4. The Menu Items will display grouped by category.
5. From this screen, you can:
  - Duplicate Menu Items.
  - Edit Menu Item names.
  - Update Menu Item prices.
  - Configure Modifier linkages.
  - Configure Sub-Item linkages.

### **Configure Modifier Linkages**

1. While editing Menu Items within the Menu Item Group, locate the desired Menu Item.
2. Configure the appropriate Modifier Group linkages.
3. Adjust any Modifier settings as needed.
4. Save your changes.

1. After Modifiers have been linked, locate the desired Menu Item.
2. Configure the appropriate Sub-Item linkages.
3. Adjust any settings as needed.

### **Add or Update Menu Item Information**

1. From the BOH, select the **Menu Items** icon.
2. Select the desired Menu Item.
3. Scroll down to the **Extra Information** section.
4. In the **Menu Item Info** field, enter how you want the item information to appear in the FOH. Use a clear and appealing description of the item.
5. In the **Menu Facts** field, enter the applicable nutritional information, including:
  - Serving Size
  - Calories
  - Calories from Fat
  - Total Fat
  - Saturated Fat
  - Trans Fat
  - Cholesterol
  - Sodium
  - Total Carbohydrate
  - Dietary Fiber
  - Sugars
  - Protein

### **View Menu Item Information in FOH**

1. From the FOH, navigate to the appropriate menu.
2. Long-press the desired Menu Item.
3. Select **Item Info**.
4. Review the Menu Item description and nutritional information.

**Can a Menu Item belong to more than one Menu Item Group?**

Yes. A Menu Item can be assigned to multiple Menu Item Groups if needed.

**Do I have to assign a Printer Group?**

It is highly recommended. Without a Printer Group, the item may not print to the appropriate preparation station.

**Can I edit a Menu Item after it has been created?**

Yes. Menu Items can be edited at any time through the Menu Items section or from within the associated Menu Item Group.

**Can I duplicate an existing Menu Item?**

Yes. Duplicating a Menu Item is often the fastest way to create a similar item while maintaining existing configurations.

**When should I use duplication instead of creating a new Menu Item?**

If you're adding a Menu Item to an existing Menu Item Group and the new item will have similar settings, duplicating an existing Menu Item is typically faster than creating a new one from scratch.

**Can guests or staff view nutritional information for a Menu Item?**

Yes. If Menu Item information and Menu Facts have been configured in BOH, users can view the details in FOH by long-pressing the Menu Item and selecting **Item Info**.

**What is the Menu Item Info field used for?**

The Menu Item Info field allows you to add descriptive information about a Menu Item. This information can help employees and customers better understand the item when viewing its details in the FOH.

**Where can I view Menu Item information in the FOH?**

From the FOH, navigate to the appropriate menu, long-press the Menu Item, and select **Item Info** to view the Menu Item description and nutritional information.

- Verify that the Menu Item has been assigned to the correct Menu Item Group.
- Confirm that the appropriate Printer Group is selected to ensure proper kitchen printing.
