## Overview

**Auto Coursing** in SpotOn Serve allows servers to automatically assign course numbers to menu items when sending orders to the kitchen.

When Auto Course is used, the system assigns the **next sequential course number** to any unsent menu items that do not already have a course assigned. This helps ensure that dishes are sent and prepared in the correct order (for example: appetizers, entrées, and desserts).

Auto Coursing can also be configured in the **Back of House (BOH)** settings to automatically apply course numbers when items are sent.

**Can I manually change a course after it is assigned?**  
Yes. You can manually update or clear the course number using the **Change Course** option.

**What happens if an item already has a course number?**  
Items with an existing course number will **not be modified** by the Auto Course command.
