Penny Rounding allows your business to round cash payments to the nearest $0.05 after tax. This helps keep cash transactions quick and simple by removing the need to handle pennies at checkout.

The rounded total and penny adjustment appear across the POS, handhelds, customer display, receipts, and reporting so staff and customers can easily see the change.

**Important**

- Penny rounding is optional and only applies after it is enabled.
- Applies only to cash payments — card & digital payments remain exact.
- Even when penny rounding is enabled, guests can still pay with exact change.
- Penny rounding is automatically applied to all cash transactions after taxes, fees, and discounts are calculated.
- Individual item prices remain the same. Only the final cash total may be adjusted.
- After payment, a *Penny Rounding *line item is shown in the payment summary and on receipts. This line item reflects the amount rounded (e.g. -$.02, $.01).

### Split Payment Scenario

When an order is split into multiple payments, only cash payments are rounded. The system first divides the balance evenly based on the number of payments selected. If a payment is made in cash, the system applies penny rounding to that payment. The remaining balance is then recalculated before the next payment is processed.

## **Penny Rounding Reporting**

When a cash payment is rounded up or down at the POS, the amount rounded is calculated and displayed as *Cash Rounding Variance *in the following reports:

- Daily Sales Recap (Payment section)
- Close Report Summaries (Payment section)

## **FAQs**

**Why do I see Cash Rounding Variance in my reports if I never enabled it?**

Cash Rounding Variance may appear as a reporting field for all merchants. However, it will only contain values if your business is actively using the Cash Rounding feature.

If Cash Rounding has not been enabled for your location, the field may still be visible in reports, but it should remain at zero or display no activity.

**How is Cash Rounding Variance activated?**

Cash Rounding Variance is generated when the Cash Rounding feature is enabled and cash transactions are rounded according to the configured rounding rules. The variance reflects the difference between the original transaction amount and the rounded cash payment amount.

**Why is the Cash Rounding Variance amount showing as $0.00?**

A value of $0.00 typically indicates that Cash Rounding is not being used, or that no qualifying cash transactions have occurred during the selected reporting period.

**Does Cash Rounding Variance affect credit card transactions?**

No. Cash Rounding Variance only applies to cash transactions. Credit card and other electronic payment methods are not affected by cash rounding rules
